Call me an optimist but I thought OU did pretty good considering what they had on the team and coaching staff.

Considering the number of players that left the team before the game, that actually went better than I expected. It was eminently winnable, but they had too many self inflicted wounds, and Navy played a very disciplined game.

It really would’ve helped if the receivers had caught the ball; those two consecutive drops on the third drive were where the wheels started coming off, but those other drops were just killers. The defense was able to hold it together for most of the game, which was pretty good considering that their defensive QB (Stutsman) and arguably their best DB (Bowman) weren’t playing, having declared for the NFL draft.

I feel more it’s just indicative of where the program is. College football has changed so much so rapidly that if you loose consistency it incredibly difficult to recapture. I think both in state schools will get back to respectable levels eventually. OU probably way quicker than OSU because of the money they have available.

I also agree with what Urban Meyers said a couple years ago when talking about programs not succeeding. When you look at Power 5/4 programs they all recruit and retain quality athletes. So when they aren’t performing the problem is probably somewhere else.
