If I remember correctly I was told that a branch of the military, Air Force I believe,used that as a backstop for target practice.
I was also told that it was a shooting backstop. That was a Navy base during WWII (that’s why it’s still called North Base by old timers), so most likely it was them, although the National Guard armory is still on North Base, not far from the NSSL and the old NWS office. Tri-City (on the south bank of the Canadian) used to be a National Guard range.

It was a backstop. You should remember it, it was taken down in the 80s I think.

I remember the hill; it wasn’t taken down until OU sold off part of the property for commercial development about 20 years ago. The part that was before my time was when Robinson didn’t cross I-35. When I was a kid it was just a 2-lane overpass, but it did cross. At least I’m pretty sure it did.
