Why do so few gentlemen remove their hats indoors anymore?

OK here is my pecadillo - just like the subject line says.

I did not wear hats regularly before joining the military, a long time ago, but I learned to remove hats upon entering someone's home, a place of worship, and most businesses (especially a restaurant).

I have many old family photos and my male relatives - I am mostly referencing the WW-II generation - clearly wore hats to every "special" occasion to include evening strolls with their ladies. However, they all stressed that the hat was to be removed upon entering certain places and to greet ladies.

Nowadays, I see many men wearing hats - cowboy hats, baseball caps, winter hats and I also see them wearing them right through dinner in restaurants, inside for leisure activities, and even at worship (though I also saw a priest at OU's chapel quietly instruct a man to remove his hat when he presented himself to receive Holy Communion while wearing a baseball cap).

What gives? Does anyone care about this anymore?
Do women regard removing hat or tipping the hat as a mannerly thing any longer?

I am so confused......(well not really but it's fun to rant)

Does your wife wear a bonnett and you drive a horse drawn carriage? :P

Times change. People used to wear suit and tie to church now there are churchs where people wear there pajamas. To each their own I guess.

Most younger guys just don't know the etiquette. I'll admit that I don't strcitly follow the rules. I tend to take my hat off at restaurants, but not bars. I don't bother to do it when visiting friends in my age group, but do when visitng people of an older generation.

Times do change, but manners shouldn't. It's sad how so many guys nowadays will not remove their hats when sitting down to dinner indoors, especially in public places. Or neglect to open doors for the ladies and old folks.

Suffrage... In a word.

I want equal rights. The ladies may wear hats indoors, an in my old place of worship, I just wanted equal treatment. To dawn my cap/hat/covering at any place which allows the other sex.

You are correct. I think it's is how you were brought up. It's kind of like saying "Yes, Sir and No, Sir" I still do this today because it was instilled in me when I was younger. Most Kids today are not brought up learning to respect each other.
