Sarge, not dissing Surefire, but for us new folks, would you mind throwing out some brand alternatives for comparison? Would appreciate it, thanks.

Just one example, but I feel that Fenix lights are a much better value with equal quality, more lumens, and often times with more features that comparable Surefire lights.

Not to mention the LED driver Fenix uses is more efficient. Less batteries is always a good thing.

for production lights.... Surefire is the best... hands down... Surefire has the world's largest R&D $$$ for flashlights and it shows.

after Cree introduced their ground breaking LED technology ... lumens basically doubled and has slow increased from there.

there's only so much lumens you can use... flashlights have exceeded lumens needed for common chores a long time ago.

Where Surefire dominates is usability and reliability... your life could depend on your equipment. this includes flashlights.

Surefire's are nice, but the cost/lumen just doesn't make sense for me to own any more of them. Surefire used to be the only game in town, now they've been passed up (somewhat) by other brands. They've been playing catch-up the last several years. Nice lights, though. Just not worth the $, IMO.

I am not a fan of the mega feature fenix lights, I have a TK10 for EDC anyone that knows me knows I have it on me at all times. I keep the torch head set on low 110 lumens is all I ever neeed, I twist it up to 225 lumens only on rare occasions when out in the woods and really need to see in the distance if we are looking for something, i.e. a scout who has wandered from camp. In a search and rescue role that extra beam is good to have.

I also used my TK10 to drive a couple of stubborn tent stakes recently on a campout.

My wife carries a TK11 and I have a TK11 that does weapon mount duty on my bedside AR.

Ahmen to that. Even in bulk cheap cr123's can get expensive.
