Here is my stereotype of you. You are an engineer so it is your duty to make other people feel stupid (I think they take away your engineer card if you don't). Secretly the rest of us laugh at you though because you are a nerd. We don't do it to your face because you will undoubtedly insult our intelligence using some sort of indisputable data that we don't understand.
Don't feel bad about it. It is how you are wired. We are already way too PC. We don't need our engineers being nice and ignoring the opportunity to take a shot at someone. If you aren't there to correct everyone, they will go on making the same mistakes. Besides we all enjoy hearing you make someone look foolish as long as it isn't us.

I had a whole long argument ready, backed up by indisputable data....

Then I realized this would be faster:

Another thing, I think you need that personality to be an engineer. I swear you guys would rather defend to the death a wrong decision than agree with anyone else.

My favorite engineer experience.:

"We have 2 parts that are marked Size B, but they are not Size B."

Engineer: "What size do they measure?"

"Size A, the same as the other 2 Size A's that shipped yesterday."

Engineer: "OK, we'll mark them as Size A, they must have been marked wrong."

"Then you'll have 4 Size A pieces and 0 Size B pieces. The order calls for 2 of each."

Engineer: "But they will all be the correct size."

"Lawl."

Engineer: *serious face*

Damn man ... you are putting too much work into it. Just hate everybody and get it over with! :slap: I am much less stressed out now that I just hate indiscriminately. Leaves a lot more time for baking and making out with GC ...

Meh, I know it's not normal. If it pains you to be social with someone becasue they told an old-email joke at dinner, and deep down you know if there were no consequences you would stab them in the cheek with a salad fork just to see what it would do, that's not normal. :D

Most people are nice. I know that because they are nice to me. They are rude and self centered, but not intentionally evil.

And I'll pass on making out with GC....

I think part of it is that the way we think, most physical things we deal with are explained mechanically, so they just naturally "make sense." Though to others around us it doesn't.

I'm constantly getting this question:

"How'd you know that???"

And the only answer I can give is:

"I didn't; I just now thought it through"

That's it, 100%. If you didn't think that way, you'd couldn't do your job. Even though I have some of those traits, I don't have enough to be an engineer. It really requires an entirely different thought process than any other job, the downfall is that thought process can't be applied to every problem.

When I was on jury duty they asked if any of us were engineers or accountants, because they tend to have such a different way of processing information. Things are more black and white. Some lawyers don't like them on juries.
