The shooter's protective gear reminded me of the twisted character in the movie, "Rampage". I was reminded of the movie when I heard of the incident. Then again upon the description of the shooter.

Totally word of mouth but I just heard that police taking him into custody reported his hair was dyed green & he claimed to be the Joker. Anybody seen that from a credible source?
That's a quote from a police chief in New York who claims to be old friends with the Aurora Chief.

Grain of salt.

...a high capacity, drum-style ammo clip
Aw, crap. Here we go indeed. Now the prices of scary black rifles will skyrocket in anticipation of a ban, among other things.

Bloombergs already on it too.

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/da...-shows-obama-romney-why-gun-control-is-needed

Actually, off topic, I like what he said here:

"Mayor Bloomberg: Well, it’ll happen, John, if it was one of your kids yesterday in Aurora, maybe you’d stand up and say I’m not going to take this anymore. Maybe you get your friends and everything. And it’s not a question of what you think is right here. Here’s the issue: You want to be President? Okay, I said the other day, forget about stuff- you want to fix the economy? Tell us how you’re going to fix the economy, and tell us in a practical sense because the President has to deal with Congress, the President has to do things consistent with what the courts will allow. But just going and talking in generalities unfortunately doesn’t give the public the information they need to make an informed decision."

And I agree whole-heartedly, G2G. In all honesty, if you arent, and you carry, you are being irresponsible. But you must admit, how many people do you think we have here who carry and do nothing but kill paper at 10-20 yards. What is that going to do for them other than defend themselves from a bad guy printed on a piece of 2'x3' wood pulp?

And it was guys like you I was referencing in my FTR, I hope you realize that.

I did. I just think that discussions like these should spur people to think about what can happen to them, regardless of whether they carry a gun or not. The man who was killed in the Best Buy in Tulsa a few days ago demonstrates that training hard and carrying everywhere is not an inviolate shield from harm. That bullet was addressed "To Whom It may Concern".

The reason to train, study and carry always is not to become inviolate, it's to become self-reliant and possess the tools and knowledge to do your best in the face of chaos. Nothing more, nothing less.

A guy at work made a good point. The shooter was dressed similarly to the bad guy Bane from the film, wearing a gas mask. You know how all the goofs dress up like Star wars people for the movies so people may not have given it much thought past someone who was seriously into Batman. I also heard he was about to start some neuro-science degree in the near future, so the shooter doesn't seem like your typical low life moron.

Actually, it's generating a healthy discussion and making people think "what would I do if...". No one is saying exactly what they would do and how they would do it, but you have to be mentally prepared to respond, whether it be fight, flight or freeze. :(

There's an amount of monday morning QB comments but yeah, I get all that. I gotta ask, honestly what good will any discussion do? I had a bit of ignorance to my prepardness before I took a few classes, now I know how much I don't know. I couldn't imagine a situation as complex as this. Problem is again.... nobody knows anything about the logistics of what happened. This kid "won the fight" before it started. People can talk and discuss all they like on an internet forum, it's mental masturbation to me. If people want to honestly be prepared then get some REAL training and then come back and talk about what you would do. Some of these comments are akin to what we berated ol redneck for just earlier this week.
