I keep file folders/binders on each vehicle, the boat, generator and every piece of lawn equipment. I write down every thing I do(no matter how small), at what mileage/hour, brand and quantity/volume. They stay in the garage in the cabinet with the manuals and msds. Luckily for me, it's not rocket science.

I know a family that uses something like these and just writes on them. Also definitely keep a maintenance log book in each vehicle.

i go by the oil life sensor in my truck

This on all GM vehicles that are equipped with it. A lot of engineering went into the computations that determinie when it comes on. Anyone still changing oil at 3000 mile intervals with modern oil and newer vehicles is throwing money and good oil out. Especially if you are using any kind of synthetic or synthetic blend oil. Even non synthetic oil will go longer than 3K miles today.

Get a notebook. Hell, There's usually a notes section in the owners manual.....

When I used to change my own oil I never had problems writing on those little stickers with a ball point pen.
