goes to show you why I'll NEVER open front door unless I can positively identify who it is. especially at 2am ...
when someone knocks on the door .. you should always challenge by asking in a loud voice ... WHO IS IT? preferably armed
otherwise they could think no one is home and kick the door in .. they could still kick the door in, but probably will go find an easier target. once they know someone is ready and waiting on other side of door.

OKLAHOMA CITY -

A home invasion led to a gun battle on Oklahoma City’s northwest side early Saturday near Northwest 13th Street and Wilburn Drive.

Police said three men broke into a home about 2 a.m.

A family member who did not want to be identified said her cousin answered a knock on the front door. When she opened it, the family member said the men forced their way inside.

Investigators aid the assailants were armed, and they beat the woman's husband and a male roommate.

Officials said one of the victims was able to grab a gun, and a gun fight ensued.

The roommate was hit in the shoulder, and his arm was broken in the struggle. The husband suffered gunshot wounds to the hip and the leg.

Police said they believe at least two of the criminals were also hit during the shootout.

Authorities searched the area for the assailants for hours, but they were not found.

"I actually really like the neighborhood ... I’ve always felt very comfortable here ... I just don't understand,” a neighbor said.

As of Saturday evening, the homeowner was still in the hospital. He is expected to survive. The roommate was treated and released.

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Police are looking for two men who robbed a man and shot him at the Executive Villa Apartments in the 3200 block of South Winston early Friday.

Officers said one of the men was armed with a handgun. The victim told police the pair banged on his door just after 2 a.m. As he opened the door, the men kicked it in.

Police said the victim told the two men he had no money. While one held the victim at gunpoint, the other man ransacked the apartment. The men took the victim's wallet and shot him in the upper leg then then ran away.

Officers said the only description of the two men is they were both young black males wearing hooded sweatshirts.

"It probably would have been best to talk to through the door, especially if you don't recognize them. If they've got hoods on, it should be something you should pick up as odd or strange," said Tulsa Police Cpl. Jerrod Hart.

EMSA took the victim to the hospital. Police say he's expected to be okay.

I had somebody knock (more like pound) on my door two nights ago about 11:30pm. The dogs rushed the front door barking. When I went around the house nobody was at the front door. Just an FYI for the guys around claremore/ Oologah area.

Knock at door turns deadly in Philadelphia peephole shooting

PHILADELPHIA Mon May 12, 2014

A man squinting through a peephole at his Philadelphia home in response to a late-night knock at his front door was shot in the face and killed, police said on Monday.

Family members at home at the time told police the 29-year-old victim heard a knock at the door around midnight Sunday in the city's East Germantown neighborhood.

He then peered at the visitor through an improvised peephole at the side of his front door and suddenly shots rang out, police said.

The victim, not yet identified by police, died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Police believe the shooter, who fled on foot, may have had an accomplice.

No arrests have been made.
