I can't wait until Obama is out of office, and I'm no Putin fan-boy, but I'm not sure what exactly we expect Big O to do about the Russians and Crimea.

Autonomous Republic with strong ties to Russia. Exisiting Russian military presence that predates the upheaval and an official Crimean request for support from Russia.

Appears to me that Russia is protecting it's interests in the middle of the constitutional mess that is the greater Ukraine issue.

This was all worked out in 1941, and we didn't like it. Spent our young men, money and industry to secure Ukraine(and Eastern Europe) for the USSR. Was that not enough?

That would be up to the Ukraine president I guess, but it could though turn into a civil war. It wouldn't last long though since Crimea is so small of a region.

That's probably the problem though, Putin isn't a fool, he was head of the KGB. He has the taste of domination and intimidation, he will probably do anything to get what he wants back, all the eastern European countries. The worst thing that has happened was the wall coming down, yeah everyone was ready to push the red button but there wouldn't be any of this mess that is going on right now. I don't know much of the wall coming down and why it was a bad thing. I'll try and get my dad on here to explain why, he knows, he was in the Cold War for 13 years, he retired in '97. So he knows a ton about this, probably more than any of us on here know about.
