I'm really torn between the Ruger LC9s and the new S&W M&P 9 Shield:

I must admit the two magazines included with the Shield is weighing heavily in it's favor.

It would be nice if Ruger would put a LC9s model with three mags in the line-up like they have done with the SR22:

Extra Ruger factory mags for the LC9 are relatively inexpensive and readily available; cost is around $25.

The Shield 9mm is another top choice in my book. It's handling characteristics with the 8 rd mag are better than with the short 7 rounder. The availability of extra 8 rd mags is spotty to scarce with a good price for them being around $30.

IMO you can't go wrong with either a LC9 or a Shield.

To do a chamber check in low light conditions. Bring weapon back to your body just above navel. With both hands. With one hand hold frame. With the other hand pull slide back. To open the chamber area. Take pinkie finger and stick it in hole. Feel for round. If no round your finger will go quite a way into hole. Should be able to feel round though. Pull finger out of hole. Release slide. All of this should be done with fingers out of the trigger area and muzzle pointing away from you. Pointed to the ground. Big chest of drawers. Tempur Pedic bed. Bad people. Ect.

Ok, I have mine, hope to shoot it later this weekend. So much better than the LC9. It should match up well with my Shield in 9mm.

If you pull the slide back, you'd eject any chambered round. Then for sure you'd know there's no round in the chamber :)

I agree both should not be there. But they are a easy remedy to null both out of the picture.

Could someone explain to me the distaste for magazine safeties? I remember back in the '70s when the Illinois State Police first adopted the S&W 39 that there were several incidents where a bad guy tried to take an officer's pistol and the officer was able to eject the mag in the struggle and disable the weapon. I've never heard of an incident where someone saved their life by being able to shoot a single round with the mag out of the weapon.
Are there any indisputable facts supporting either side of the mag safety/no mag safety debate?

One, they can effect some trigger pulls. Two, if someone is grabbing my gun, I've screwed up and behind the curve. Three, there has been a couple times carrying and the mag button has been activated. In that situation I may be able to fire once. Four, if you are storing the weapon 'dry' in the safety I like to release the action. In order to do that with this weapon I have to reinsert mag, which violates a safety rule about a 'loaded' weapon and pulling the trigger. Or, I have keep unloaded mag around or unload a carry mag, both options are a pain.
Thus, why in don't like mag safeties.
