God doesn't need your money... the church does. Not only for benevolence and missionary ministies, but churches have bills too.

The bible does speak of tithing in the old testament, 10% of crops and junk... but the old testament is null and void to christians. The new testament is the new covenant followers had with their savior. While it talks nothing of tithing, it does speak of giving and how gifts should be in keeping with income.

The televangelists pervert and molest the books to keep themselves In a life of financial comfort.

I'm no expert, or religious in the slightest, but that's what I remember growing up in a church.

People like Joel want to inspire and make you feel good... but as the saying goes, if you walk out of church feeling good about yourself, the preacher isn't doing his job.

I dunno how to respond that wouldn't offend. Jesus flipped the tables for a reason, they've needed to be flipped again for several centuries.

Religion has been a multi-level marketing scheme since the day man figured out he could make good money twisting God's word. Of course there are good people and those who take a vow of poverty to serve their community through their church in the name of Jesus deserve respect.

For Christians it started with Paul. He wrote letters telling people to give to a new kinda Church that Jesus wasn't even aware of.

So I'm curious, it's always some neoChristian spinoff of a spinoff of a spinoff out of nowhere/nothing church that pops up, puts a guy on TV and banks. Do the Muslims, Hindus, or even Buddists have to deal with this crap? Is it just us who get the bad area used car salesman turned mail order ordained preacher types?
