Took my son in law out yesterday and he took this big ol’ nanny. You can’t tell from the picture but she weighed between 140-150 pounds. Biggest doe I’ve ever seen. She was bigger bodied than the 9 pt buck my daughter took this year. He used the Remington 742 in 30-06 that I gave him for Christmas a few years ago. He was very pleased with the shot and the doe.

I went out this afternoon and made two shots in under a minute then took 2 hrs to get them dressed and loaded. Shot the biggest doe at 225 yds, then the other doe and two yearlings came running toward me. She stopped at 190 yds and looked at me so I put a shot through her neck. I then had to throw them off the creek bank, float them across the creek and winch them up the other side.
And if anyone needs a 308 load with 178 gr ELD-X, I’ve got one that does phenomenally well in my rifle.
A credit to this rifle…it has never missed. Four of us have used it with nary a miss and easy recoveries.

Major shout out to @OKRuss for letting my son and I come out to his fantastic hunting property! My son shot his first deer out there this evening.
He’s 13. I’ve been loading reduced recoil 150gr loads for the 30.06 and he’s been practicing a lot this past month or two. He made an excellent shot! He was patient and didn’t shoot the first one that stepped out either. Waited for one that looked more mature. She isn’t huge, but still decent and the meat will be delicious!
Doe ran into the woods a ways after the shot, so we followed the blood trail to her. Awesome experience! Field dressed her in the woods then drug her out. Russ came with the ATV from there. Great time…

TY. Doing my part to help keep youth interested in hunting. Cooked them up a teriyaki marinaded backstrap and his son was goin to town on it!

You’re definitely helping get this youth hooked on hunting! Much appreciated… and yes he got blessed with his mom’s skinny genetics, but he can put the food away like a fat kid hahaha!
