20yds with a 25-06, nice. Was it a pre-64 Mod 70?
Nope, it was probably a late 70s or 80's model I guess, with a wood stock and a widefield 3x9 that worked really well. Borrowed it from my B.I.L.
I was up in a tripod free standing metal stand with camo draped all around it right next to a creek bottom. Two does led him into the small clearing coming up from the creek and the first one basically stood right underneath the front of my stand and when I lifted the rifle, she spooked but the other doe and the buck froze and couldn't figure it out. Took a shot right behind the shoulder and the round literally disintigrated inside dropping him where he stood.
I'd never shot any 25-06 before that, but it made me a believer in it for the size of deer we have around here. Seemed to work without a hitch. I'd also never used a wide field scope prior to that either and I really liked it also.
