I sold my 2 45/70s and most of my reloading stuff for it. I love the cartridge though! My favorite power was imr4198
I just never have fully warmed up to lever guns for actual use, and the rainbow trajectory kinda made it just a range toy for me… but dang it’ll swing some steel at 75yds!! Lol

Hog coyote for sure one day id like try take an elk. I've got to get a 1lb of that and try it out
A single shot 45/70 was the first gun I purchased after turning 18.
I don't know how many thousands of rounds I have run through it.
Handloading is required for it to reach its true potential. It's easy to load at a variety of power levels, and the cases last, and last, and last, and last.
With a 300 grain hollow point it does surprisingly little meat damage to white tails, but drops the quickly. Field dressing can be a little messy, as it usually makes a mess of whatever organs it comes close to.
The upside/downside of the round is that it has a trajectory resembling a rainbow. Great round for brushy country, or where you need the round in the dirt before it reaches the property borders.

Wow that's a light load be fun shoot with a suppressor. Did she go down instantly? I'm trying to decide if I should go with 52gr it group nice but it's at the starting point didn't know how well that bullet would mushroom vs the 59gr group nice and be going a lot faster
I've killed about a dozen deer with that load over the years and it pokes a .458 hole in and out not matter if shot in the ribs or the shoulders. If I shoot them through the shoulders they drop straight down, ribs they always run about 40y-50y it seems like. I've never shot one over about 40y though.
Man that's nice to hear i will probably stay with the 52gr then and save some powder and my shoulder lol
