My Christmas present to myself.

The vent blend motor stopped working. And of course it's the one that the whole dash has to come apart.
If you don’t have the dual-zone HVAC, the dash doesn’t have to come apart. The center stack has to come out and you need to open up the glove box, and it is tight, but you can replace it without yanking the dash. I just did it on my ‘13 F-150.

If you have the dual-zone setup, the dash only has to come out to replace the driver side blend door actuator (the single zone actuator is the same as the passenger side actuator).

Yuck, you've Youtubed it and looked for shortcuts?
It is my understanding that there are two. One for the heat/ac and another for the windshield/front and floor vent. With the AC on, the AC was blowing from the windshield vents and there was a very annoying popping sound coming from the area behind and below the center console. My son estimated 280 BPM. He's weird like that. LOL

I'm not going to tackle this job. Just off the phone with a shop and by my explanation to him, he is saying it's the one that the whole dash has to come out and the A/C refrigerant has to be drained to do it. I decided to have both replaced.

Sometimes, it is cheaper to pay more in the long run.

I believe this thread has the information and videos you need. Some stuff to take out but doesn't look too bad. Surprised to hear he wants to drain the AC.

There would only be two blend door actuators if you have separate controls for driver side and passenger side temperature (the blend door controls the mixing of heat and cold to adjust the temperature). If you don’t have the dual zones, there’s only one blend door actuator.
With the AC on, the AC was blowing from the windshield vents and there was a very annoying popping sound coming from the area behind and below the center console.
That popping is a classic symptom of the blend door actuator going bad. FordTechMakuloco has a pretty good description of it on his YouTube channel if you want to learn more about it.

Yep, I've done two of them on our pos expedition. It wasn't fun, but didn't have to pull the whole dash. Can't imagine why you'd need to discharge refrigerant, but maybe there's another one in there somewhere. And wouldn't put it past ford to make you do something stupid like that..
