Yep, I've done two of them on our pos expedition. It wasn't fun, but didn't have to pull the whole dash. Can't imagine why you'd need to discharge refrigerant, but maybe there's another one in there somewhere. And wouldn't put it past ford to make you do something stupid like that..
One can be changed in a little under an hour by removing the center dash control and radio plus the glove box and the other one has to have the dash removed.

Yeah, by all accounts, the driver side blend door actuator is a bear and a half to change. Well, it’s easy enough to change, it’s just a bear and a half to get to it.

It's true. Ford makes things difficult. A 90-2000s Toyota is so much easier to work on than even my much older fords.
