v8 or ecoboost? I may be interested
2009 won’t be an EcoBoost. Those didn’t start ‘til 2011. That truck is the same generation (12th), so the frame, sheet metal, crash structure, etc, are the same, but Ford went to a completely new engine and transmission lineup and engine control system in 2011. (Technically, the 6.2 was carried over, as it appeared in the 2010 Raptor, but the other mills were new.)

If it is a major 4wd problem you will hear it when it is in 4wd. and possibly when not in gear.
The electric shift motor or module is an easy fix. Is it even going into 4wd?
Not familiar with ford as much as GMC. My 2007 Z-71 has an issue with the push button module getting hot and quits sending signal to the 4wd shift motor. Cost around 35.00 dollars takes about 5 minutes to fix it and it will last about 2 or 3 years.
I would venture to say that by the looks of the Pickup that the front transfer and differential are like new.
Unless you drive it in 4wd all the time it gets very little use. Takes quite a bit of off road use to wear out the front differential and transfer gears. and you will distinctly hear them howling after they loosen up or have a problem.

Stick towards your 9500.00 private sell price. Dealer offer will be 40 to 50 percent of actual sales price.
Don't get in a hurry there are New Pickups out there all the time. They been making them on assembly lines since the early 1900's.
Famous Sales line is we won't be getting another one after this one is gone, like they quit making them.
My answer is well that is very confusing, I just looked on line and seen 100's of the same model listed for a lot less than you. See Ya. Then leave. They will call you back, that is why the first thing they do is get your name and number before they even know what you want.
I like to give them a fake name and a number to Pizza hut, if I am just looking around.

Jim Swink is my go to.

Dealerships don't make offers without having a pretty good idea what it's worth, and they're in a position to have a pretty good idea what it's worth. It's literally what they do for a living.

If you don't want to mess with it, take their offer knowing it's costing you money for the convenience.

If you want to get maximum return for it though, sell it yourself.

Have you put a reader on it to see what the code is? Nice looking truck BTW.
I was just thinking about that last night. I'm assuming if I can get the wrench to come up I should be able to get code from the reader.

It's the 5.4 liter. I have seen what others are asking for on the 2009's so I think I'll investigate this further before selling. I'll list it here first when I do.

It sounds like I got my answer. Thanks to all for bringing some sense back into my head.

You guys really gave a lot of valuable input, I appreciate it.

I bought it in 2015 with 86,000 miles and only used the 4 wheel drive the few times it snowed here. The last time I used it, it did work just knowing by taking off up hill from a dead stop. I was thinking as well with my limited knowledge that this shouldn't be a catastrophic failure.

I'll be buying this other truck without financing next week. I was already going to do this with or without the trade-in. I'm just going to have two trucks parked in the driveway for a bit.
