Did you know the extractor groove in the 30-06 is narrower than the .308 or .243.
Groove in the .308 and .243 are close to the 45acp.
To get good extraction from the cut down cases when used in a 45 acp the groove needs the wideness.
30-06 does not extract as reliably.
Look and compare for yourself.

Quick answer is yes the grove is much more narrow in 30-06. When making shotshells use 308/243, or you will beat on the extractor, and possibly break its hook off. Been making shotshells since 82 for the acp. I use a cut off 410 shot wad a bunch of 9 shot and a thin plastic over card. Even made a punch the right size to punch out the over card.

Yes shot shells for 45acp.
I began making them in 2014. Here is the thread on my journey into those homemade shot shells.

That thread was incredibly informative.

Use wax bullets in .45 ACP.
Not lethal but they will put the hurt on a neighbor dog that keeps crapping in one’s yard. Especially if using a modified case that will accept a 209 primer.
Cleaning is easy. Hot water.
Also have the 9mm Speer shot shell

I have shot some wax but I found some 45ish diameter glue sticks in my garage and those shoot very well.
I like shooting crayons from 38-357 cases also. And i have shot them through 9mm.

I got froggy one day and thought ***** What if I took that hot glue and melted it into a bullet mold and shot that bullet from a primed case.
It worked perfectly.
I would shoot them into a cardboard box that had magazines in the bottom of it and a red rag hanging at the opening facing me.
Rag slows the projectile down where it can be retrieved and shot again.

I have bought plastic practice bullets for my 357 I think Speer made them.

Thanks for Info.

Another Rabbit hole to dive into, this winter.

Way back in Grade School, a Professional Quick Draw came to our school to put on a National Assembly, they called it.
He was inside the Auditorium teaching about guns, he was a retired LEO if I remember correctly. He was shooting wax bullets at different targets, one was aspirin wedged inside lifesavers. He shot the aspirin out of the lifesaver and show the lifesaver to the audience. I still remember the smell of the gunpowder. No ear protection and guns in Grade School. Great time.
