That way is called wrong ... you just added another set of brackets to original problem:
48/2*(3+9) != 48/(2*(3+9))

You can follow rules or you can just come up with them and fail at elementary arithmetic.
Parenthesis (brackets) first
Multiplication and division left to right
You can come up with rule that what is "attached" to parenthesis has to be done first - it just doesn't exist.


It's written just fine. It's not a matter of a vote or opinion - just right and wrong.

48/2(9+3)
(9+3)=12
2(12)=24
48/24=2

For it to equal 288 the problem would have to be written like this
(48/2)(9+3)=
(24)(12)=288
