Mom had called an overhead door company to get a new opener put on her garage door.

The "tech" that came out, looks at the opener she had and tells her, "your motor burn out because you have 1/2 hp opener. I recommend you get move up to 1/4 hp."

She laughed and said she would have to wait and would call back.

He tried a hard sell. She says, "the ceiling would have be upgraded to carry a 1/4 hp. Would he be willing to change the service order to 1/2 hp at the same price, if she paid cash ?"

Idget done it. Take advantage of an 80 yo widow like that. Punk should be ashamed.

Something similar. Our AC wasn’t cooling well one summer. Tech came out and said the blower fan motor was too small and not moving enough air.
Said he would have to replace the 1/3 hp with a 1/2 hp. (Both run at 3600 rpm?) Asked if he were going to include a higher pitch fan blade with that bigger motor. Got a blank stare. He had no clue where I was headed. He left to get a motor so called the business and explained what was going on and we were done with them.
Went up in the attic after dark when it cooled off and found the A coils needed cleaning. Partially plugged. Cleaned and the unit went back to operating normally.

I tried going down this rabbit hole on a truck forum, when people were talking about milling their cylinder heads .300 to bump compression. I wish a machine shop would do exactly what some moron asked for....give them back a head with no combustion chamber left LOL

You don’t frequently remove 3/10ths of an inch of precision material and still expect it to work?!? And here I thought you could do that to anything and it would still work.
