It is an excellent round. To be honest, if I could only have one center fire rifle, and ammo was cheap, it would be a 7mm Mauser with a 22 inch barrel in a Mannlicher European Walnut stock.

i shot a deer one year with a Spanish Mauser in 7mm Mauser. Iron sights at about 50 yards. Dropped him in his tracks.

I love both 7mm and 8mm Mauser rounds though. They’re wonderful cartridges.

I've killed deer, elk, antelope, hogs and coyotes with my 7X57. One of the greatest cartridges ever.

I used to have a 7mm Mauser years ago. I believe it was a 1897.
I wish I still had it.

But now I have a 8mm Mauser. It's not as nice a rifle, but still a good shooter.

Bought a 7x57 Mouser for my son's 13th birthday. I shoot a 7mmRemMag, so loaded some 140 gr Hornady bullet. Had plenty of range scrounge .270 brass to cut down.

33 yrs and many deer, hogs and coyotes; he still uses that rifle.
