Ummmmm ... I think maybe Mr. Hoddy was being a little sarcastic???

I killed my first deer with a '93 Spanish Mauser in 7x57. It had the original stock, although it had been cut down, and the original sights. I have since 'customized' the rifle with a sporter stock and scoped it. And, I have added a Ruger M77 in 7x57. Excellent old round!

I bought an 1895 Chilean Mauser 50 years ago from Southwest Shooters Supply, it had been customized with a shortened barrel and full length custom stock and Williams sights. I then had them install a Weaver V7 scope on a tip over mount. I still have it and wouldn’t let it go even after all these years.

That would be a very nice setup.
I've killed a couple deer with it. It was probably a 60's or so rebuild when the .300 Savage was popular. Complete with a K4 Weaver scope in 4X using the wire crosshairs.
The rifle has some interesting hand engraving with Mother of Pearl inlay. It was so unique that I had to have it.

Spanish mausers were 7 mm I owned a couple of them
Yep, the Mexican 98s were small-ring, yet 98 action versus the 93-96 cock-on-closing less robust action. Lots of these were made into sporters.

The Brazilian large ring 7x57s were awesome, but most of them have either really dark bores or have been converted to 30-06.

I may have a fetish for Mausers.....could be worse I suppose.

If I’m not mistaken, Rigby called their version the .257 Rigby and a young Scotsman cut a swathe through the East African elephant population with it.

That would be the .275 Rigby, rimmed version of the rimless 7x57. Karamojo Bell took many an elephant with it.
