An old NRA article i have lists the 8 bore rifle at 85ft lbs recoil 16lbs rifle with 862 gr bullet and a 4 bore with 158ftlbs recoil 1882grbullet 24lb rifle. OUCH

I used to hunt turkeys when I was 16 with a Marlin Super Goose 10ga. Good lord that thing was a snot kicker!

A friend of mine said he had seen some 8 bore shells marked industrial and the guy that had them said they were used in the steel industry for clearing out so the steel would flow. I think they also used a large shell like that to cart start old acft radial engines.
