It only took 8 months, 3 emails, and 2 phone calls (while putting up with all sorts of reasons why it is taking so long) but I finally picked up my CCL this week. I had almost given up.
Have you considered contacting a local news outlet about your experience with the state and how we are expected to follow rules but they apparently dont?
It sounds like this has since been fixed but I'd like to see some media coverage of how poorly the state has handled the CCW application wait times.
I caller yesterday and was told because they have to research my background that it will definitely be longer than 90 days. Said the research pile has about 350 applications in it. But they gave me 2 options
1. Wait for them to get to my app, then they request documents from Chicago and then approve me, which would be longer than 90 days.
2. I do the leg work and request my own background from Chicago, and as long as its an official document from Chicago they will accept it, and it will shorten my wait period.
So yesterday I wrote the circuit court of cook county requesting the background check.
I was told that there was an issue with the background check the first time then it was the fingerprint cards had issues to we are just really backed up.

I used to work for a background check company , if they have to pull info from cook country expect a long wait they generally take 90 days or more just to respond to the request and longer if you have a common name or one that matches a hit in the database. As far as large city/counties they are by far the worse in the U.S. If you still have family in the area they can go to the county courthouse and request the check that will speed it up but last I heard they still don't have public access terminals.Oh and they are super picky about the fingerprint cards 90% got sent back to us as unusable.
