I watched a video from Ares Armory that was saying that IF you finish milling an 80% lower that it doesn't have to registered. Granted you can't sell it, or trade it, BUT no registration is required AND you can build a functioning AR15 rifle from it. Is that right? It just doesn't sound right to me. Anyone have any opinions?

If you make it into an SBR or AOW then yes, it has to be registered with the ATF and a serial number is required. If you do finish an 80% lower into a title 1 firearm, then you can absolutely sell or trade it. You just can't be in the business of making them and selling them.

Bottom line is yes you can legaly make an 80% into a legal gun. It can not be transfered unless you die. Then it can be passed to a family member. If you wanted to sell it then you would have to become a maunufcturer, pay taxes, and number em.

Its just cheeper to buy a cheep one from Aims or some other place thats finished. Most the time these 80% cost more than a finished one and come raw without the black anodized

Unless your up for the challenge and just think its fun I wouldnt do it, and thats coming from a machinist
