I do IT work for many companies, one of which is a pretty good sized company downtown. There are a couple of employees there that are pretty unstable and one is known to keep a firearm close due to a previous stalker she had from an internet relationship. Whoa, right? It gets better. Over the past several weeks the unstable one has not been doing very well at the office and blaming it on computer issues. Her superiors then call/email/IM me to ask me what the deal is, at which time I inform them that it most definitely was NOT her machine and the server was NOT down all weekend as she told them. She's been written up a few times for it. So yesterday the CIO of the company calls me and says "we need you to be on site Thursday at 8am to do some 'account maintenance'". In other words, we're going to fire someone. He says its going to be her and another and asked me what i thought her reaction would be. My first response was, "you know she carries a gun right?". At any rate, I'm pretty much responsible for her being canned and her office is right next to the IT office. The company is worried enough about it that they have hired a plain clothes armed security guard to pose as a consultant working with the office manager for the next two weeks. The plain clothes guy will be at the front however, not the entrance that is close to our offices. Go figure.

I have yet to work a deal on a conceal carry piece, so I am a little nervous to say the least. I am hoping to work a deal on something tonight, but still looking for the right deal.

What do you guys think? Cause for concern or not? What would you do in my situation? I'm pretty sure she has no idea its coming.

It's always prudent to be cautious regarding newly terminated employees, but do you have any specific threat information to report? Or is this just a general feeling of uneasiness? Have you looked her up on OSCN? Do you have a SDA permit? If so, can you borrow a carry gun? Does the company have a firearms policy?

The devil's in the details as they say!

I'd be taking some vacation. Any idea how "unstable" she is? If she's that bad she shouldn't be carrying a gun in the first place.

Much ado about nothing but then you're there and we're not.

Define unstable...

How long have you had your CCW?

By unstable I mean not normal. She met a guy on the internet, he swindled her out of thousands of dollars, she met another guy on the internet, he started threatening her which prompted her gun toting. She has random days where she runs out of the office in tears for some reason or another, she has pulled me aside on several occasions and asked me questions like whether or not we (as in IT) can see what she is saying to other people via IM and all sorts of other things. She gets upset really easily but it usually ends up in her crying.

I've had my CCW for a couple of years.

I don't have any specific threat information to report. She has no idea its coming. Yes i have an SDA and the company does not have a firearms policy. The 15 story building the office is in has a gunbuster sign on only one of the 4 possible entrances, so i would definitely be packing tomorrow if i could make a deal. Don't see anything about her on OSCN

I have to be there because I have to disable her accounts and make sure she doesn't try to do anything malicious before she goes...

Sounds like your garden variety trainwreck/basketcase. The significant majority of those types do nothing more than create drama and engage in self-destructive behavior. Without specific threat information I wouldn't be overly concerned. Never stop being vigilant and have a plan in case something happens at work, but I wouldn't burn vacation over the issue at this point.

With that said, always trust those little hairs on the back of your neck! :)

I'd carry and swear I had never used the door with the gunbuster sign. better judged by 12 than carried 6.

Also I agree you may not have anything to worry about but the mere chance would prompt me to carry and keep my mouth shut.
