Just like every perp walk ever. You'd be amazed--nay, disturbed--to know how often those boxes they carry out are empty, just props for the camera.

Very few things will make you lose respect for the law faster than watching the news while going to law school. The ideal and the reality, an hour and a half apart.

Or working for lawyers ... and being married to a JBT ...

Though not evidence in and of itself, that's a very strong sign that she seriously screwed up, and nobody at the PD is buying her excuses. Public employees--especially unionized public employees--almost always get to stay on the payroll pending the trial, for various and sundry reasons (some of which have been endorsed by the courts--in some cases, courts have held that public employees have a property interest in their jobs which can't be violated without due process). If the PD is firing her, they're gambling that there's absolutely no way she can win, or they're firing her based on some other bad conduct that would be sufficient cause (such as what her tox screen showed).

It's gotta be something like this, something where they have no choice.

The fired officer's supervisor and her supervisor's supervisor both need to be investigated. They should be fired, demoted, transferred to Siberia or something similar to get the message across to the entire Dallas PD that they will be a responsible, self-regulating police force or they will be gone.

Why is that? I get that DPD doesn't have the best of reputations, but what did they do to justify punishing them for what she did?

Leaders are responsible for superivising the people they manage. They should not be punished for what she did but if they failed to effectively supervise her, they should be punished for that failure.

If she had done what she did while on duty, yeah, maybe there should be repercussions against her supervisors, but they have no responsibility for what she does on her own time. Maybe you should punish the parents that failed in her upbringing...

Police departments need to monitor the performance of police officers. If this killing happened out of the blue without warning the supervisors are not responsible. But if there was a pattern of misbehavior by the officer or signs of mental instability and lack of proper supervision then supervisors need to be held accountable. The more that police departments coverup mistakes, the less public trust they will have.

My guess is that this happened out of the blue, but if she had a pattern of misbehavior on the job and they didn't take steps to address that, then, yeah, they need to be held accountable for that.
