I have a Savage 116 FCSS 30-06 that working towards getting completely set up. I just got the scope mounted last month and took it to the range to get it on paper. The trigger was not anywhere near where I want it though. It had a very crisp break but the pressure it took was way too much. Anyone know how to adjust these and recommend a good weight to set it at? I don't have a trigger pull gauge so I'm guessing as to what it is. It will be used primarily for hunting.

Um I am on the road so I can't give specific instructions, but you should be able to find instructions on Savage website. Target guns adjust down to 8 oz and other rifles adjust down to 2.5# IIRC. If that is correct, I would adjust it all the way down if it is 2.5#.

take off the stock
insert the adjustment tool into the spring behind the trigger
clockwise makes the trigger heavier
counterclockwise makes the trigger lighter

It looks like a valve stem core remover so one of those could work. Maybe a small screwdriver. I bet if you called Savage they'd send you one

You can just grab the spring from the sides and turn it - I've never used Savage tool.

It is easy. Why didn't they just use a hex head that could be turned with an allen wrench. You know, a common tool. It might be good to try and find a replacement screw that has a common head.

When I bought my Savage I took the stock off as soon as I got it home to adjust it and it was already on the lightest setting it could be. It is a model 12 and those got 1 1/2 pound triggers and I don't have a gauge to check it.
