I have a special place of hatred for robo calls. Not only do they annoy me on my personal phone, they plague my work phone as well. AND, I use a company calling system to call my customers (this way they don't get my work cell number and call me day and night) that is based out of OKC. So Tulsa area people see the 405 area code and ignore it. Then I get customers who get angry because I didn't call before I came out.

The Federal Trade Commission and its law enforcement partners today announced a major crackdown on illegal robocalls, including 94 actions targeting operations around the country that are responsible for more than one billion calls pitching a variety of products and services including credit card interest rate reduction services, money-making opportunities, and medical alert systems.

The joint crackdown, “Operation Call it Quits,” is part of the Commission’s ongoing effort to help stem the tide of universally loathed pre-recorded telemarketing calls. It also includes new information to help educate consumers about illegal robocalls. In addition, the FTC continues to promote the development of technology-based solutions to block robocalls and combat caller ID spoofing.

“Operation Call it Quits” includes four new cases and three new settlements from the FTC alone. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed two of the new cases on the FTC’s behalf. Collectively, the defendants in these cases were responsible for making more than a billion illegal robocalls to consumers nationwide. Today’s announcement brings the number of cases the FTC has brought against illegal robocallers and Do Not Call (DNC) violators to 145.

“We’re all fed up with the tens of billions of illegal robocalls we get every year,” said Andrew Smith, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “Today’s joint effort shows that combatting this scourge remains a top priority for law enforcement agencies around the nation.”

In addition to the actions by the FTC, 25 federal, state, and local agencies have brought 87 enforcement actions as part of the initiative. State partners announcing enforcement actions today include the Attorneys General Offices for Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia; the Consumer Protection Divisions of the District Attorneys for the Counties of Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, and Santa Clara, California; the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; and the Los Angeles City Attorney. In addition, the United States Attorneys’ Offices for the Northern District of Georgia, Middle District of Florida, and Southern District of Texas, with support from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, have contributed five criminal actions.

“Every year, our office gets more consumer complaints about unwanted robocalls than just about any other issue,” said Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill. “At best, these calls represent a nuisance for families just wanting to enjoy peace and privacy without needless disturbances interrupting their routines. At worst, they represent scams that successfully steal people’s identities or hard-earned money. In Indiana, we are quite serious about stopping illegal robocalls, and our alliances with such partners as the FTC will prove a valuable asset in this mission.”

Here is an idea just answer and then forward the call to the FTC each time.

On a side note my wife and daughter each have Google Phones. They allow call screening its so sweet. Phone rings you can answer, decline or screen. Screening has google answer and tell them they are being screened and asks who they are and what they are calling about. It types their response live on the google phone. They can then ask more questions and keep screwing with them or send them to vm or hangup.

Guy I works with has a soundboard pulled up on his computer at all times. He screws with a few everyday. Nothing like hearing someone try to cuss that dosen't speak English as first language. "You son of a d#ck." is not proper cussing.

I got a robocall yesterday about noon, something about credit card interest rate BS. The robo caller was the same voice as the tmobile automated line voice.

FYI

Endurance is the name of the vehicle warranty phishing scam.

I looked up the Endurance home page which looks legit.
Why would a extended vehicle warranty company legitimately doing business resort to this phishing scams? Yes I said scams, plural. I contacted the BBB via web and saw these.

According to the BBB complainant descriptions, they send out vehicle warranty letters to kids and people who don't even have vehicles.

I never did anything with this but just thought I should report it as other people might respond to a similar letter. It seems interested in people who speak Spanish. I don’t but my first name sounds Spanish.

After multiple, multiple, multiple phone calls insisting that I confirm if I have a 2015 "XXX" model car, they have now gone thru the US Postal Service. I received( same day) TWO mailings( dated the same day) addressed correctly with all the info on the memos identical with one exception. They used 2 different Account ID numbers. They call their program " ENDURANCE". My response on the calls ranged from me hanging up, answering no to all questions( & they hanging up, or a rude / foul response when I called this a scam. Not I'm submitting this "report".

I received an invoice in the mail from a nameless auto insurance company addressed to my elementary aged son to renew a lapsing warranty - Endurance - on his vehicle. Clearly, my child has no such warranty, so it was an easy scam to spot; however, the form itself looks professional and could be misleading to others. I also have serious concerns about how they got my child's personal information as he is extremely young to be on any mailing lists. When you call in response to the 'vehicle document/alert notice' they will ask for your 'vehicle code' on the form. Then they begin asking for more personal information. I don't know how far they go before they ask for money, as I was less than professional with them. But I'd be very surprised if you get a real warranty at the end of this line of questioning. On the form below, I have put my demographic information vs my son. My guess is that they didn't even realize they had targeted someone so young and had received their information illegally.

The business using telephone 1-877-413-6377 is a SCAM... it keeps persistently calling and sending postal mail that is misleading. The notice claims that 'my' auto file needs to be updated immediately. I do NOT own a vehicle. I worry about unsuspecting people who do not read the letter carefully including the fine print and are tricked by this scam. NOTE: This business goes by several business names and different addresses listed below BUT uses the same telephone number: 877-413-6377. Wouldn't you know while filing my complaint it took me to the Chicago BBB website and as soon as I entered my zipcode the site crashed. Go figure.
