Begin Ramble:

A couple of months ago I bought a 30 gallon aquarium. Did a bunch of research, decided what I needed to make it a success and dove right in.

About $600+ later I've got a really nice tank with active, healthy fish in it that are, truthfully a joy and kind'a relaxing to watch.

But the road to getting there was not without its bumps. Figured there had to be forums devoted to the aquarist hobby and of course - there are. There are quite a few. Found one I liked and joined and use it for information about the hobby and to avoid the common and not so common pitfalls of fish keeping.

Anyway...

This morning I was browsing around and found this thread:

Are You Addicted to FISH?

I've noticed that some people have a compulsion...they just can't help themselves. They see a fish they like, and they just have to have it!

Marital and other family conflict disregarded, these fish junkies just keep spending whatever

they can spare on extra tanks and equipment to house their seemingly endless inflow of little fishie babies.

Are you among them? Are you infected with an overwhelming urge to rescue or otherwise acquire fishie friends and flood your home with your aquatic addiction?

Fear not, for you are not alone! Inspired by my observations of a particularly afflicted portion of this population, I have decided to found Aquarium Keepers Anonymous - a.k.a. AKA! Remember, the first step in getting help is admitting you have a problem!

Interesting thread to me because as I read it I found myself replacing poster references to fish with firearms. The posts still made sense and had a similarity to the stuff we post that was - well - eery. And not a little because some of those people are just pure T strange (that's another story entirely). But after thinking about it a bit it became clear to me that hobbyists who are really in to what ever they're in to are pretty much the same every where. I've seen the same behaviours and attitudes among those in to photography, motorcycles, guns, gaming and now fishkeeping (all things I am in to).

Anyway: Some where in this post is a point. I just haven't figured out what it is yet.

:End Ramble

Be grateful that you don't play golf! There are those that believe they have to have the latest, greatest driver, putter...whatever. And when the going rate for a new driver is $400+, it can get pretty expensive to keep up. And we're not even talking green fees/carts!
