"thought experiment"

^^^ That's really an unreasonable expectation for some people to engage in. I understand it's just an experient. I don't think some can wrap their brain around that though.

I personally could live with the trade mentioned, as I have little personal use for hi-cap magazines (same with "machine" guns). I would hope the capacity if such a thing was ever passed was at least limited to 12 or 15, if not 20. Even a subcompact XD holds 13 rounds in a flush fit magazine in 9mm, for cryin' our loud.

And yea, I oppose a hi-cap mag ban in principle. But you're talking about quid pro quo bartering. So I'll play along with the exercise.

I'd trade 30 round mags for a national pre-emption that the 2nd Amendment applies to every state and every city, both in the home and in public, with no registration or national permit required. Essentially, Vermont carry laws for everyone. :D

The CCW provisions GTG laid out and taking SBR's, AOW's, and silencers off the NFA list.

How about we get a full repeal of the NFA, GCA '68 and FOPA altogether? I know it seems to be asking alot but it's really not. As for mag capacity only limit the manufacture of NEW mags in excess of 21 rounds. Wouldn't it be cool if that were basically the only firearms restriction on the books? I want to order a M14 from the Sears & Roebuck catalog dammit...
