I think the 1971 dollar still contains partial silver. up to 1974 if I remember correctly. same with halves. you can take it to any gold and silver place and get i think 5 times face for it if i'm right.

speaking of all this... anyone know anything about value of wheat pennies? I have about 25 rolls of them that have been collected over the years. they are unsearched (not that i'd even know what I'm looking for) and in various different conditions but there are a lot of really early ones.

That is true for 90% silver but I checked the details again to make sure on the lessor content coins. For Kennedy Halves from 1965 through and including 1970 have 40% silver content and will get you 5 times face.


So what about those wheat pennies??

71 to 76 Eisenhower dollars have 40% silver and are currently worth about $7.34.

Your IKE dollars are more than likely taken from circulation and are clad. The 40% silver were purchased though the mint unc's were called blue Ike due to the blue envelope package and the proofs Brown Ikes due to the packing and were in a plastic holder.

Your common comm won't bring much over $350 to $360 currently and not even that though a dealer. They are very common and even a PF 70 won't get you much over melt. I actually collect theses, or should I say they used to be the best deal for a bullion coin and still are. Oh the days they sold for not over $100 a pop.

I'm a big collector for just about 40 years. A dealer paying anywhere what it's worth isn't going to happen. Sell it in the BST for between his buy and sell. JMO
