Any good suggestions for finding a night sight in the grass?

Put one clip through my springfield loaded 1911 and the brand new front night sight that sa put on last month went mia, any good suggestions on finding it in about 4" tall grass?

Personally, I would borrow a metal detector if you know the general area it should be in.

I'm hoping they will replace it but I'm not the original owner and tried the metal detector and will try again but there is about 10 years worth of brass in the dirt that's making it difficult

How old was the sight?

I didn't think a metal detector would pick up brass? Can you not turn the power down where it will only pick up feris (sp?) metals?

Sight is only a month old, and it's doing a damn good job of picking up brass

A strong magnet will surprise you, provided there isn't a bunch of other ferrous stuff in the area.

Even if you find it, you will be sending the slide back to SA for a re-do. Odds are the sight has had too much material removed from it during the fitting process, so you probably don't really want it anyway.
