I ask because I was in the process of the Cleveland County Sheriff. Once I found out I had to pay for everything they estimate ($3-5k) to volunteer I decided it wasnt worth it. Volunteering your time is one thing paying to do it is a whole other story.

Most reserve's are like that. I was gonna get on at Guthrie as a reserve while in school and then I saw the price tag....Geez I was deployment rich but not that kinda rich.

OCPD was authorized to hire 64 officers. Thats two academys, or one super academy the way they have been doing it. Academy's have been running back to back, but they are still short officers. Dont believe the line of crap they have been feeding or the feel good they have been pushing about new officers being hired. They were down over 200 officers before they started hiring again last year. Their retirement rate is higher than their hiring rate, plus not all their cadets make it through to the street. OCPD pays well, good benefits, but expect to be shorthanded, and short on cars. If you have any questions let me know. I dont work for OCPD, but I can probably get you the answers or in touch with someone who does.

I really appreciate it sir, That'd be the most ideal place for myself. I'm definitely getting my application filled out tomorrow. I was going to school full time for CJ/Police at UCO after my deployment, but Ive gotta baby on the way so my bachelor's can wait. I knew a few guys that are in but IDK what kinda word they can put in for me. I appreciate any help.

Use them as references, have them put in a word for you, or have them ask the recruiter to check your app. Do you have your associates? Without a degree, its hard to get them to look at your app. Most with the department think its a crock, and it is. Your prior military should get you veterans preferences points with a PD, but thats not how they do things, its the good ole boy network.
