In '92 I had outgrown my skiing boots and didn't feel like special ordering 14's and eventually 15's; my brother conviced me to try boarding with him so I had to search for something that wouldn't feel like a skateboard. I ended up at the Northernboarder in Anchorage and those guys were into the extreme skiing and snowboarding championships out in Valdez, which at that time they were elongating and widening out their custom boards for this competion. I bought a custom 176, forget the Italian manufacture's name, but they had to custom fit my bindings............ yada yada yada......... anyhow I fell in love with the sport and found it much easier on my knees but maybe not my ass! lol

I'm not a regular boarder really, but I do try to get up to Colorado when I can during the snow season. Having a free place to stay helps. Wolf Creek near Pagosa Springs is a pretty fun mountain.

Really glad you started this thread, I'm leaving this Saturday to head to Breckenridge/Keystone for a week. I've been several times but I have never tried snowboarding. Reason why is I already know how to ski and enjoy it and don't want to lose a day or two trying to learn to snowboard. However this past summer I did get pretty good at wake boarding which brings me to my next question. Is wake boarding and snowboarding similar? Meaning since I can do one I should be half way decent at the other? Just trying to see where my learning curve is going to be? I've always wanted to learn to snowboard, but I also didn't want to go from being on blues and blacks with the group of people to being stuck on greens all week on a board, possibly by myself.
