18" Ape's arn't too bad. I dont really care for ape hangers but the 18" are alot more comfortable than the 24" but that is just my opinion. Go out to your local Harley dealer and you will be able to see how they feel to you

If it were me, and I'm just a dumb Harley mechanic, I'd stay away from the heavy, fat bars, and get some normal width, 1" apes.

It's a dandy time to run your wires in your bars too. Very clean, and easy to do if you are mechanically adept.

When replacing the bars, replace your two piece upper riser clamps for a plain jane, smooth one piece. Takes the twist out of them.

If you have more questions, PM me. I will walk you through the internal wires. I have done hundreds of them. It's easy.

Now that sounds like a good idea! The ones I am looking at are from Hill Country Cycles. They come with chrome switches, housings, levers and are pre wired for a quick plug and play.

Anyone have any experience with them?

I'm a short guy 5'7" but I've recently owned a rigid sportster and a rigid triumph bonneville. They sat rea low in the back end and had 12 inch apes. For me and sitting on that low seat, it put my hands just above my sholders like wrist at top of shoulders and was really comfortable. I'd sit on the bike, put my hands and that height and see what length apes take you from the top of your trees to that height. That was a great comfortable spot to lean back and relax on a ride.

This thread is worthless without pics

Here's the Sportster

That's cool. Motorcycle are a very personal thing so riders tend to gravitate toward a particular style. I've always been interested in European bikes with an aggressive riding position. American (and American-styled) bikes have somehow arrived at putting a La-Z-Boy on 2 wheels.

I seriously don't know HOW you guys can ride with those forward controls. That is the most bizarre feeling!
I don't like ape hangers, but I do like forward controls. Sport bike foot pegs place me in a very cramped position. Longer rides would cause my hips to start cramping. Never have that problem on my Harley Fat Bob Lazy Boy.

Ok so I gotta ask (and so I can have some more fun with you Harley types) :buttkick:

PLEASE explain to me the purpose for a windshield with ape hangers!

Dude wants to be a badass so he installs the ape hangers and takes off down the highway. The wind tosses him around a little so he puts a windshield in front of the goofy-ass bars. So is he still a badass or semi-badass or should he just turn in the man card all together?

Example:

And what's with those handlebar streamers? I've seen them somewhere before. Just can't put my finger on it...
