Apparently, cattle and deer like to orient their body in a North-South direction

I call BS. These cattle are grazing east, west, north, south and all points in between.

You guys think the innate sense of direction you have has something to do with the position of the sun relative to time of day?

this doesn't exactly surprise me. I've always thought I had a compass in my head. I can always tell where north is, even if I'm in a strange place and I was asleep while being driven there.

This really showed itself when I was working as a land surveyor.

I know what you mean Bryan, except oddly enough, my internal compass always points me West! ;( Sometimes that can really mess me up

So does the same hold true for the southern hemisphere? Do they bed facing the magnetic south pole? Were any of my tax dollars used for this study?

I've been around some of the biggest cattle ranches in the world. Cowboy'd on a couple back in the day.
I'm calling Bull Hockey. Like the pic above, they will be oriented no matter what way they are feeding.

Now, if a storm is upon them, they will back up to the snow/rain etc. Bedding down for the evening on a normal day they will be everywhere.
