Archery equipment question

Back in the early 90s I had a friend who archery hunted in thick woods and had a tracking string real for his bow. You shoot the deer and follow the string to find it, similar to a fishing bow string but a lot smaller and more refined.

He was the only guy I have ever heard who used one. Anyone ever try one or have any comments about them? I don't think I have ever seen them sold and was thinking about them this evening and was curious if that was still a thing.

I've heard of them and seen them randomly available for sale, used. They likely faded into oblivion due to tangling, changing arrow flight (additional drag, weight), etc.

I bought into the gimmick when I started bow hunting in the late 80’s, and though the idea was good, it wasn’t practical in the thick woods of east TX.
My string got hung up during a shot at a deer and stopped my arrow, and I took the thing off and threw it away.

I wouldn't mind someone holding my beer while i use my bowfishing rig on a pig (under 100lb).

I had one too. It worked but it did get tangled in all kinds of stuff, mine was fluorescent orange and you could see it a long ways.

I have a certified tracking dog. My archery buck fell in my sight. Thats okay if training my dog makes me never have to look for my deer again, I am good with it.
