I think they are all about equally well. Not much you can mess up on a .22 revolver. I have an RG that could shoot accurate out to 30-40 yrds. However, i think one of the best ones are the older ruger .22

This is like saying "I think all sportscars are equal, I have a 1992 Ford Probe and it pulls .65 on the skidpad..."

I guess it depends on what you want. As a plinker I've found the RG, HR, and Heritage 22 pistols are great guns for $100 to $200. I've shot them all over the years the S&W has a little better sights and trigger but for $500 I'd want a real gun.

If it were me I'd get a fun .22 and an Advantage Arms slide for your CCW piece which you can get some real practice with the gun your using while saving on ammo.

You can purchase both of them for less than a S&W .22.

4" Model 18 Combat Masterpiece,,,
6" Model 17 Masterpiece,,,
4" or 6" Model 617.

My personal favorite is Didi,,,
My venerable Model 18.

My 2nd favorite is Lilith,
She is a J-frame Model 63,,,
I have oversize grips on her so she feels like a K-frame to me.

I recently got to fire the new version of a Ruger SP-101 in .22 LR,,,
It had a heavy (not yet broken in) trigger mechanism,,,
But overall was a very nice .22 revolver.

BUt I still say that the Model 18 is possibly the finest .22 handgun ever made.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the Diamondback? I didn't even know they made a Snake Gun in 22LR, it's a beautiful gun and by all accounts that I can find a great functioning gun. If I decide I can accept a 6 shot wheel it will be difficult not to pursue one of those little dudes.

I used to have one. They're great. On a par with S&W. However, be sure to bring your billfold with you; they ain't cheap. Only JB and OKCshooter can afford them.

Agreed... further inspection has shown me that the Colt collectors have latched onto it as they have so many other handguns & the price it commands as a collectible now far exceeds it's actual value as a firearm. I don't buy "collectibles", I buy guns to shoot so I'll probably have to cross that one off my list.

That's no big problem,,,
Just find a 4" Model 18 or a 6" model 17,,,
You will be holding a pistol that outshoots any Diamondback.

But if you are determined to have a Colt,,,
Try to find a 4" or 6" Trooper Mk III.

It's heavier than the S&W guns,,,
But it's a nice shooter.
