Best Home Defense 9mm for The Money

Need opinions. Have a friend that is looking for a 9mm for home defense, not concealed carry. Doesn't want a 45, but a 9mm (ammo cost, etc.). What are the best ones out there for less than say $600?

Forum usually has some good advice and I'd like to pass it along...

Have him go to Medlock's in Collinsvillle, they rent pistols to try at the range. Many 9mm pistols available. Try before you buy, no regrets later.

There's more out there but you really can't go wrong with any of these.

More good options than bad out there. In no particular order:

Glock
CZ
XD
M&P
Beretta

Each of these offer several sizes to choose from, and none of them suck.

Usually yes, which is why I left Sig off the list I made. They can be found for under $600 for a used one though.

Price range: +1 on Beretta 92

Over the price range: +1 on Sig 226, dang good gun. The 9mm I have kept and not traded nor sold. Accurate as heck, when I shoot mine 1-2 times a year and have an excellent pattern, it's the gun-not me!!!

Hi,

I picked this up (9mm) not long ago and I really like it (although it was $650). I think Academy has the 40s&w version.

Is all STEEL.
Carries 19+1 rounds.
SA/DA.
Comes with night sights.
Very little recoil (because of its weight)

(I also recommend a G19 or G17 for home defense)

(I'm not a Glock fan...just not my thing.) With that said, for under $600, Glock 17/19 are the best home defense guns out there.
