Or I'd pay a quarter for the state to email me a reminder. How much would that cost the state?
And why is it $5 to auto-generate a note on two cents' worth of card stock and twenty-three cents' worth of postage (bulk mail rate for postcards)? A bit of profit-taking from the subjects, perhaps?
I took gl55's word for it above. Based on the link you provided, he was inaccurate; it's still free for vehicles, and only fifty cents for boats and motors (and yes, e-mails are free for both). That's much more reasonable, and quite in-line with the actual costs. Mea culpa.I thought it was 50 cents? Where did you get $5?
Also you can get emails for free

Blinocac, I'd grant you a small service in providing a registry of property (just as the recording system provides a benefit to property owners insofar as it resolves title issues). I can see a small fee for that. Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure.
OK, so I have an update, not that it will help anybody, but I tagged 3 cars today and save $600. Yup, the limit is not $100, it is $100 per year up to 2 years of expired tags. Depending on the cost of the tag, you will be facing at least $248 for you project vehicle tag versus $41 (cheapest car tag @ 2 years of tags). This was not publicized or discussed publicly. The gov was trying to hide it. These cars are not road worthy, yet I had to tag them as though they were just to avoid $600 in penalties. Total BS. I don't mind tags, they are road use taxes, but please explain to me why I have to tag a car that sits in my shop for 6 years?
