If you don't like being searched at WalMart you don't have to go there. No one is making you buy groceries.

Suspicious activity on aisle 4 - help Mr WalMart Manager! Someone call the TSA!

In the coming months, the Department will continue to expand the “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign nationally with public education materials and outreach tools designed to help America’s businesses, communities and citizens remain vigilant and play an active role in keeping the county safe.

So the next thing on the list is to have our friends, neighbors and anyone else rat us out because we wear something on the street they might think is threatening like say a "Don't tread on Me" or a "Freedom Day - 13 Jan 2013" shirt.

Yeahhh...
That works...

Of course once the plan gets into full swing we'll have to remove "Land of the free" from our national anthem and probably "home of the brave" for good measure.

How is this different from the spying provisions that were in the Patriot act? There must be huge differences between the two or else the same people who fought against the Patriot act would not be supporting this one.

Is there a list of differences posted anywhere that I can look at? Under the Patriot Act you were supposed to watch for suspicious acts and report them. They were asking ordinary citizens to report on neighbors. To notice things that did not look right. Is this that much different?

I'm not saying that this is right or wrong. I believe in neighborhood watches. I'm just curious as to the differences in these two policies and wonder what makes this new one so much more palatable to those that thought the first was the end of the free world.

I am all for citizens actively protecting themselves. I am very suspect of government directing them to do it. The old slippery slope/ camels nose thing.
I was against the Patriot Act for that reason. It went to far and is to easily abused.

She was the winner of the 2009 Dumb*** Award. I don't know who came up with it, but if the shoe fits.....

"It was tough to pick a winner in the current administration, but I think everyone will agree that its hard to argue with this selection!

Yes, Janet Napolitano, DEMOCRAT from Arizona ..........

For listing Tea Party protesters, southern Christians and returning members of the military as potential domestic terrorist and right-wing extremists .. you are a dumb***.

For renaming the ongoing War on Terror as an Overseas Contingency .. you are a dumb***.

For dropping the word terrorism from the government lexicon .. you are a dumb***.

For saying that the terrorist attack on 9/11/01 was really a man-caused disaster .. you are a dumb***.

For claiming that ILLEGAL immigration is not a crime .. you are a dumb***.

For declaring that the Canadian border was more dangerous than the Mexican border .. you are a dumb***.

For stating that the Muslim Terrorist attacks on 9/11 came from Canada .. you are a dumb***.

For allowing the spread of Swine Flu by not testing travelers from Swine Flu ground zero in Mexico .. you are a dumb***.

For comparing a fence along the US southern border to the Berlin Wall .. you are a dumb***.

For claiming that Homeland Security's system worked when all could see it failed .. you are a dumb***.

For taking back your system worked comment with system failed .. you are still a dumb***.

Janet, for you just being you, you are a dumb***. So congratulations Janet Napolitano!!

You are the official 2009 winner of the dumb***of the Year award!

Deserving of awards and accolades for having failed so much in one short year ... you are the winning loser!

Dale00,

I don't think Homeland Security has to have a search warrant if they call it a terrorist threat.

Pretty scary, a citizen complaining to HS and they respond by calling it a terrorist threat.
