Mostly because he can't write. That and he's got some really odd ideas. To each their own but he makes things a lot more complicated than they need to be -- in order to make more money from endorsements, I'm sure ...

I've only read Patriots. I didn't realize he wrote more books and a website until today. His other books don't exactly have glowing reviews.

I agree, but people are still buying into it.

He provided a product and people buy it.

Me, I just like to read this genre of stuff.

If I learn something I'm happy.

If I get my mind to decompress after a long day in the office by reading escapist crap, even better.

Like everyone else has said, not a bad book and if you can get a copy for free it's even better. It is PAINFULLY detailed so if you are not a gear geek you may not want to bother. I'm not crazy about his writing either but I've read much worse survival fiction.
