In the past, this was often true... however, with today's technology and the backing in the sci-fi/fantasy genre, I think they can do really, really well. But ONLY if they go all-out on some of 'em. I remember being blown away and imminently happy with the LotR trilogy. They have changed The Hobbit quite a bit, but nothing terrible right now.

Huge fan of LOR trilogy and Hobbit. Read them both a couple of times. Just watched Desolation of Smaug Monday night. Might watch it again tonight if I have popcorn n snickers.

I bet I've read the LotR trilogy a dozen times over my lifespan. Hope I have a couple dozen more readings in me. :D
