Is it this back plate you're trying to grip? If so it's not necessary.

It is an old spout and there is a feels like steel plate that threads onto the pipe. That sucker is on there and I may have to just replace the pipe nipple to get it off. Only problem is there is no place to get ahold of just the nipple either. I will figure it out.

Ok, I have no clue what it might be but let us know how it goes. I've done a lot of them. Probably 20 of all years even back to the 30s. Curious to know what it actually is.

Heat some vinegar up and pour on it, if it is hard water deposit the vinegar might loosen it a bit.

Actually, not really, but I am having to push myself more. Trying to get my groove back. I was pretty handy back in the day and I want that back. I hate having to ask for help and as the wife gets worse there is more I need to do.

I think I have got it. Turns out part of it is pressed on, it just looks threaded.
