This guy wasn't a bully... he was a plain old fashioned A-hole out looking to hurt someone. Probably the kind of guy who abuses animals and kids.

I suffered a couple of major injuries yrs ago, and as part of the treatments I've taken years of oral & injected cortisodal steroids. I packed on 120+ pounds. Because of my back & joint issues and breathing difficulties, I can't excercise enough to get my matabolism up enough to burn calories. If I cut back my caloric intake to under 1,000 calories a day, I might see a pound of loss in a few months.. but I starve. So, I certainly don't judge people for being over weight anymore. If you see women who have exceptionally large hips but are thin every where else... there is a good chance they have jobs that require them to sit in a chair all day and they don't get to move around. I once worked at a agency where we had a woman that was approx. 5'5" tall and about that big around in her hips. We had to replace her office chair every year due to wear and take the arms off the chair so she could fit in it. Poor thing, she starved herself silly, ate lettuce and rice cakes. She just had a low matabolism and a job where she didn't get to move around very much. Changes in hormone levels due to child bearing or going through the change of life & water retention doesen't help women either. But she was the sweeted kindest person you would ever want to meet and she sang with the voice of a angel. Her size didn't matter one bit to those of us who knew her.

Getting that email was the best thing that ever happened to her. She used it as an opportunity to be a "victim" and gain notoriety for it. Not saying she wasn't smart to do it, but let's face it, no one would have ever seen that email, so she publicized it for her benefit and she's getting her 15 min of fame for it.

People are too damn sensitive. What ever happened to "thick skin" and "water off a duck's back"? If you are going to be a public figure, you'll have a lot more people with opinions about you than if you worked a regular job.

Same thing that happened to civility and minding your own business, they went out of style in the new progressive world.

As someone that has had to sit next to overweight people on small regional jets... I don't pity her much.

Side note: If you can't fit in the seat comfortably with the center arm rest down, please drive to your destination or buy two seats.

We don't like sitting next to whiners anymore than they like sitting next to us.

I'd love to see a pic of the guy who sent the letter. If OSA (and facebook) are any sort of example, he's probably 450Lbs or more (I'm just going by the experience that the loudest A-holes usually have 3 fingers pointing back at themselves).

I'd say sending in a letter like that was both a chicken-$#@! move and bullying. Bullying by way of socially outcasting or verbal abuse is a big deal to me personally - I've got 3 kids and all are "gentle giants". None are overweight (all are athletically built and into tons of sports). They pretty much mind their own business and don't respond to bullies - they don't like to fight and they have thick skin, but you can only be pushed so far.

Two of my kids have been accused of bullying for standing up for themselves because they had finally had enough of the loudmouth kids who were picking on them (in the case of my son, the half-pint instigator was literally yelling at him with a group of other kids and running up behind him when my son turned and laid him out with an uppercut and jumped on him and kept swinging). The instigator had been calling him names and gathering around a bunch of my son's classmates and telling my son that nobody wanted him around and getting in his face. He was also a foot shorter than my son. Guess who got sent to the principal's office for "bullying"? Yep, my son - despite multiple calls to the principal's office and talks with teachers about what has happening before the fight.

Same thing happened to my daughter - she was 13, but 5'9" tall and has pretty good upper body strength (she's a post in basketball and has no issue putting people on their backs) - a steroided up football player liked to catch girls off-guard and make crude comments and even get handsy. He tried it with my daughter and she nearly knocked him off his feet with a binder she happened to be holding (he grabbed her ass - it wasn't like he just made a comment). His mom worked at the school and walked out just in time to yell out how my daughter was "bullying" her son (who was a 6' power-lifter / Offensive Lineman). My daughter just went to the principal's office and from that point on the teacher (and her friend) both picked on her - more bullying.

We left the school over it after attempting to resolve the situation and not getting results.

So if you ask me, social/verbal bullying is just as bad - especially when kids stick up for themselves at the risk of being labeled a "bully". No reason at all for the letter - it served no purpose other than to hurt someone. That's what bullies do.

As a society, we hold up these "hottie" size 1 celebs, then complain that they don't look like "normal" people. Victoria's Secret starts using "plus" size models on the runway and everyone applauds them for it, yet we have the TV telling us that obesity is an "epidemic". So what is the "right" size for women to be? Should we be telling little girls not to be obsessed with their appearance only to have them go to school and be told by the USDA that they have to eat less and exercise lest they get fat? I married a woman who is overweight. She's the best thing that's ever happened to me and I love her with all my heart. She knows she's fat, she's working on it the best she can and I'm very proud of her when she meets her goals of losing, and I encourage her when she falls short of those goals. Every single one of us has issues we need to work on, some not so obvious as weight but everyone has them just the same. I don't blame the news anchor's husband for reacting the way he did. Personally, I would've found the guy that wrote that e-mail, picked out every one of his flaws be it alcoholism, or road rage, or male pattern baldness, whatever it is and followed him for days on end reminding him of it................................... and then I would've beat the sh*t out of him. :)
