Next weekend will be the first time I go to a gun show with money to spend. From what I understand, a lot of private sales go on at gun shows. How does that work? Do people generally indicate that they are selling a firearm in some special way? Are most of the people walking around with rifles slung over their shoulders selling them? Should I just approach people randomly and ask? I'm probably overcomplicating this...

your going to wannamaker, if you ask a person and they tell you no its not for sale, you will be able to find the same gun somewhere in the building that is for sale, that is the biggest gun show in the world

If you see someone carrying a gun that you think you might be interested in, a nice tap on the shoulder with an "excuse me Sir (or Ma'am), are you selling XXX gun?" They will either respond Yes or No. If they say no, say: have a good one and move along. If they say yes, over pay them by at least $200 as a good faith gesture after inspecting the firearm and wish them well. As you are walking away, make sure to mumble things "Death to the infidels" or "Those darn coppers won't get me now" are 2 big winners.

seriously though - you are making it way to complicated. You will also meet a lot of friendly people these shows.

All good ideas! I should probably ask if they have "the good stuff" in a back room too, and how well anything I buy will defeat body armor. I think a few violent spasms here and there coupled with random profanities would go a long way too.

Really though, I have a tendency to think people are going to freak out when it comes to anything gun related. I grew up in California where they treat you like a criminal for expressing an interest. I guess I was overthinking it.

no you'll pretty much just be the same as every other mouthbreather at Wanenmacher

I like gun shows but Wanenmacher really draws out the dregs of society IMO.

Only miissed a couple of the Wanenmacher shows in the last 15 yrs. It's an awesome show if you can handle the crowd. If you know what gun your looking for, and know what you will pay for it, there will be one at that show. My advice would be if you find the gun your looking for at your price, you better buy it, or it probably won't be there when you go back later.

Yeah, you're overcomplicating it. If you see something you like just ask if it's for sale and go from there. Hope you find something spiffy!

I agree. If you have something you are wanting to sale or trade, just carry it around and people will ask.
