I still IRC daily. I was actually reminiscing about my pre-nerd days when I was new to the internet. One day, when I no longer had an AOL account, I started looking for a new way to chat. Ended up finding Microsoft Comic Chat. A buddy on DALnet #cars got annoyed with all the extra coding that came across the chat from the client, and turned me on to mIRC.

Thanks for making me feel so old. I still remember our party line at home and using the "beep line" even in my college days. Guess it is "welcome to geezerhood" for me.

When the government shuts down the Web (for our own safety), those bulletin boards and dial-up connections may become very important again.

I havent had dialup in years.

you say that... but I run on AT&T dsl, transfered from an old SWbell account. That account had free dialup 56k access for when you might be on the road.

I never use it. but if one were to look up the numbers jacking the phone line into the modem on any computer should in theory grant access, even when dsl is down. I think most of the dsl services offer this. but cable lines can't for obvious reasons.

I remember my first client. It was BitchX. Compiled from source. Ran it through 2006. Then I switched to irssi. Finally using my first GUI (Quassel) since Junish. Probably switching back to irssi soon.
