EDIT: some of the formatting got jacked up I'm trying to fix it now.

I'm in hutchinson, KS tonight and bored out of my mind so somehow I ended up reminiscing about the early days of the internet. You know before the BS that was AOL. When a true badass had his 14.4k modem and you were still counting baud.

Long story short I found theres a few Dial Up bbs still running!

Heres all that I know work so far.

I haven't gotten connections to all of them but other people recently have so they should be up.

Post finished in next post.

Ah, what the hell are you talking about? LOL, sorry. I would not call you names as your post suggests I'm glad I know enough about computers to know to call you if mine does not work.

Y'all do know that Kelly (the original owner of this site) had/has a BBS here in Tulsa, right? I forget the name of it.

this is true. I have NO IDEA what this thread is about.

You know how email is the digital version of letter writing... well, this is about the old version of the internet. What we're talking on now... came from this stuff. It was a logistical nightmare. And for the most part it's abandoned now. Much like an ancient city, lost to time... bits and pieces remain, just enough to get a window into the past.

I'd almost bet my right hand remembers VAX/VMS EDT commands even if my head doesn't.
Last time I was on a VAX was in 1999, it was weird - I had to edit a file and as long as I didn't think about it too much the commands were almost instinctive.

Geez; I spent a lot of time on Vaxen when I was programming in FORTRAN, but I haven't been near one in years. I remember when a former colleague got a shiny new VAXStation, and we both laughed at its unbelievably huge 125MB O/S...

Trade Wars, Legend of the Red Dragon, Usurper, VGA Planets, major MUD.
VGA planets was funny because it was so graphically weak, but if you didn't have a VGA video card you couldn't play it. I played games that looked better than that on a lowly EGA card. Stupid VGA.

Oh boy I need some legend of the red Dragon!
