I mentioned this project on here before, and promised I would post pics when it was done. It got delayed a bit, but here she is. La Coruna 1954 FR-8 - $260. XS/Clifton Scout mount - $60. Acraglas to install mount - $25. Fajen F54 synthetic stock - $60. Total cost of rifle: $405. Eat your heart out, Ruger! The red dot is a Bushnell TRS-25. It has a lower 1/3 co-witness with the irons.
Yes, they are great rifles to begin with. I didn't have to do very much at all to make it into my ideal scout rifle. It is like a Ruger GSR only cheaper, with better sights, a better length barrel for the cartridge, that can mount a bayonet, and that takes $0.50 stripper clips instead of $80 AI mags!
Excellent job on the rifle. This is very close to what I envisioned when I bought my FR-8. I need to get to work.
That's a good looking rifle. Very nicely done. How hard is it to find a FR-8 these days? Are they readily available?
